Privacy Policy
Paper Clipper · Last updated: 20 July 2026
Paper Clipper lets you photograph newspaper clippings, analyze them with AI, and keep them organized on your device. The app is built to be local-first and privacy-respecting: your clippings live on your device, and nothing is uploaded automatically. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles and why.
What is stored on your device
- The photos you capture of clippings.
- AI results (transcribed text and summaries), plus any tags and comments you add.
This data is kept in an encrypted on-device database (SQLCipher on Android, with the encryption key held in the Android Keystore; SwiftData on iOS). It is not synced to any cloud service by the app.
AI analysis (the only time an image leaves your device)
When you explicitly tap to analyze a clipping, the image is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to a small proxy server operated for this app. That proxy forwards the image to a third-party AI provider, which returns a transcription and a short summary; the result is sent back and stored on your device. No image is ever sent automatically or in the background.
Which AI provider processes your image depends on your plan:
- On the free plan, images are processed by DeepInfra, which runs an open-weights vision model (Qwen3-VL) to read the image. See DeepInfra’s Privacy Policy and Terms.
- On the paid (Plus) plan, images are processed by Google’s Gemini API — see the Gemini API terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
Image and data retention on the proxy. To operate, debug and protect the service, the proxy server retains a copy of each submitted image along with its AI results (the transcribed text and summary) and request logs (timestamp, your per-install or account identifier, IP address, request size, app version, and outcome). These records are stored on the server that operates the service; they are not sold, shared for advertising, or used for cross-app tracking. You can request deletion of the records tied to your identifier using the account deletion request form.
Identifiers
To enforce the daily analysis limit, the app sends a randomly generated per-install identifier to the proxy. If you choose to sign in (see below), your account identifier is used instead. These identifiers are not sold or shared, and are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Optional sign-in
Paper Clipper may offer optional Google or email sign-in. Signing in is not required to use the app; where present, it is used to provide a stable identifier for your usage limit and to recognize a paid subscription or a gifted upgrade. The app uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-tracking SDKs.
Feedback
If you send feedback from within the app, your message is delivered to the developer. Including your email address is optional — provide it only if you’d like a reply.
Export
The export feature writes your clippings (images and metadata) to a ZIP file on your own device through the system file picker. Nothing is uploaded; the file goes only where you choose to save it.
Your control over your data
- Deleting a clipping removes it from the on-device database.
- Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app permanently erases all locally stored clippings and results.
- To remove server-side records tied to your account, use the account deletion request form.
Children
Paper Clipper is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
